Basilisks usually look like large snakes or dragons. The serpentine version sometimes has a rooster comb on the top of it's head, or a rooster head instead of a snakes. However, there is one part of a basilisk that remains the same; a mane of white spines around it's neck. It is these spines for which they get their name, which means "little crown".

Some have poisonous fangs, others have a petrifying gaze, others can poison with a touch, others breathe fire, and many more have combinations of the previous.
