The Bluecap is a creature with origins in the mythology, legend and folklore of the Anglo-Scottish Border. It is a ghost/fairy hybrid. They inhabit mines.
AppearanceUnlike a tommyknocker, which is gnome-like in appearance, a bluecoat usually appears as a small blue flame similar to a [hitodama]. Sometimes they appear as a being made out of blue fire or a small fairy that gives off a blue glow.
BehaviorBluecaps lead miners to ore. They will also help a miner escape a mine during a cave-in or fire. Like tommyknockers, they warn of cave-ins and miners leave offerings of food or money for them.
