Origins[]

The Camelopard is a creature with origins in the mythology, legend and folklore of Medieval Europe. The name 'Camelopardalis' (καμηλοπάρδαλις) is actually Greek in nature, derived from a combination of κάμηλος (kámēlos "camel") and πάρδαλις (párdalis, "leopard"). From its name is derived the genus-species name of its later-discovered mundane cousin, the giraffe.

Appearance[]

Camelopards look very similar in nature to their cousins, giraffes. They have long necks, long legs and spots all over their bodies.

However, in addition to the ossicones (the nubby 'horns') that giraffes are known for, Camelopards also have long, backward-arching horns, not unlike a species of goat or antelope.
