Origins[]

The Crodère is a creature with origins in Alpine mythology, especially in the surrounding areas of the Dolomites.

This race of creatures are known and greatly feared all throughout the region of the Dolomite mountains, for their powers, as well as their history with the natives.

Though, this was not always so. There was once a time when the icy-hearted elemental mistress of the Crodères, the goddess Tanna, left her servants high in the mountains to marry the Prince of Aquileja, with whom she produced a son, Prince Salvanel. The queen-goddess Tanna would later divorce from the then-King of Aquileja, and return to her mountain home.

For a reason unknown, the King disowned or otherwise rejected his son, the Prince (it is believed, by some, that he took his mother's side in the conflict that caused the King and Queen to split). And yet, Prince Salvanel, had not inherited elemental powers from his mother. While she was on the verge of launching an attack on the King, the Prince was scaling the mountain to join his mother.

She did not see him caught in the crossfire of her elemental attack until too late. His lifeless body was soon discovered in a crevasse of her mountain home. And so, while she still holds hostile feelings toward her ex-husband and his Kingdom, her attacks are guaranteed to stop for a ceasefire period of mourning over the son she so loved, and yet was unknowingly responsible for killing.

Appearance[]

The Crodère is larger than an average human in size. Their males may be stocky and/or barrel-chested, broad shouldered and often have facial hair and/or other body hair. Female Crodères may be athletic and muscular, but discernible from the hardness of their male counterparts. A husky body shape is not unknown or even uncommon among Crodères.

Hair length varies among Crodères, but skin, hair and eyes are often the color of different types of rocks and stones. In particular, their hair and eyes may be colored and patterned like rocks and stones native to their homeland. Likewise, the irises of Crodères' eyes are larger than normal, though not quite as large as those of cats.

Often, Crodères are seen in leathers, furs, all earth tones. Many have also been known to get tattoos, or branding marks. And while not every member of the clan is tasked with fighting or guarding, it is not uncommon to find even Crodère children wearing a light armor.

Behavior[]

Crodères are a stern and serious sort, due to the nature of their hearts. They are known to be terse, sometimes going as long as a week without exchanging conversation between even family members. Friendship and courtship are foreign to the Crodères; they have only family and the goddess.

And they are a dutiful sort, devoted in service to the goddess-queen Tanna. When they witness acts which threaten her kingdom or otherwise would displease her, the Crodères do not hesitate to use their supernatural powers to send ravaging winds, avalanches, rockslides and other elemental retaliation to plague the human(oid) enemy.

It is believed that only during the queen's period of mourning for her lost son are the Crodères released from their inability to feel emotion, able to feel and act of their own accord.

Though, it should be known, not all Crodères are directly under goddess-queen Tanna. Some believe that those who live apart from Tanna worship her & practice emotional detachment of their own accord, rather than lacking emotion inherently or having emotion removed involuntarily.

Abilities[]

  • Elemental Magic- the ability to channel supernatural energy to induce and manipulate events and phenomena based on air/wind, cold/ice/snow and the rocks of their mountain homes.
  • Montane Adaptation- the ability to access physical and mental features suited for mountain survival.
  • Stone Heart- the ability to make use of a heart with properties of stone.
    • Apathy- the ability to withstand emotion and related phenomena.
