Mermaids are beautiful, immortal, mysterious creatures of the sea that have been in mythology all over the world and have been in many stories, legends and movies. They were once worshipped as immortal goddesses of the sea. There are many types of mermaids that live in rivers and seas.Mermaids seem to be a female only race as the mermen of myths are ugly merrows or the tritons of greek mythology.

The Merfolk are said to be as old as time. Many myths have explained their origions.In one myth they are the beautiful daughters of Poseidon, god of the sea.Another tale says that after Heracles brock to horn of a river god,the blood of the river god transformed into mermaids when it touched the water. Mermaids are the cousins of the sea nymphs and sirens and share similarities with both races. After Ulysseus got past the sirens,the sirens threw themselves into the sea. Most became rocks while others transformed into mermaids. Mortal women in some myths have become mermaids by jumping into the sea or into rivers such as Atargatis and Loreli.

Mermaids are a race of beautiful, aquatic humanoids. The mermaids are said to be the most beautiful of all creatures.They have the upper body of gorgous nymph-like maidens. They have flawless, pearly skin with a watery shimmer,flecked with tiny, fine scales.Mermaids have very long, thick flowing locks.Their hair and eyes come in many colours, such as blonde, black, red, green, silver, gold  among others.A mermaid has thin webbing between her fingers.Instead of legs a mermaid has a long, slim fish tail covered in shiny scales.Mermaids have a dolphin-like tail fin and fins along the back and sides of their tails.Their tails can move up and down like a dolphin or side to side like a fish.
