Origins[]
Th Strigoi is one of a race of creatures with origins in Slavic mythology, legend and folklore. The name of the species has many connections to other words throughout various European languages and dialects, all of which have their place in accurately describing the Strigoi species.
The words is related not only to the Romanian verb a striga (to scream), but also the Latin adjective strigosus (skinny, thin, lean), the Italian noun strega (or the Venetian equivalent, striga, both meaning witch), the Greek noun strix (owl), among numerous others.
It should also be noted that the ridicule and persecution of people with red hair (redheads or 'gingers') is deeply rooted in the acknowledgement of the existence of Strigoi.
Appearance[]
While most other breeds of Vampires are vast and various across the range of human(oid) appearance, the Strigoi's looks are far more distinct.
Regardless of the ethnicity to which they belong, the hair of the Strigoi is always some shade of orange or red. Their eyes are always some shade of blue. They also possess a higher possibility of freckles than any other Vampire breed.
Furthermore, while turned Strigoi may be bigger or smaller than typical range for the breed, born Strigoi are always lithe or lean and athletic in build.
